I won't go into too much detail about what dandruff is, and I'm not attempting to claim that my description is in perfect accord with research on dandruff. This is just what I've gathered after a quick spin around the net. I'll try to get better info for the future if it is demanded. Normal, healthy skin constantly sheds dead skin cells (the outside layer of our skin is already dead by the way). These cells usually fall off individually or in clumps too tiny to see. I suppose occasionally even healthy skin will have a flake or two. However this is a far cry from what happens with dandruff. Basically dandruff is a condition where skin cells from your scalp (and possibly other hairy regions such as the eyebrows) fall off the head in large, visible flakes of dead cells at a much faster-than-normal rate. The skin basically cycles through the layer of dead skin cells faster.. |
